Bradley, Forby help push for park in Colp
COLP — Two Southern Illinois legislators are joining the push to help build a community park in a Williamson County village.
State Representative John Bradley (D-Marion) and State Senator Gary Forby (D-Benton) joined community leaders in Colp Friday to help promote the park and a large fundraising event for the park.
Communities work to provide a playground for children
COLP — In spite of the current national climate of racial unrest, the residents of Colp and Number Nine have found a reason to work together. They want a playground for their children.
“It may not be unique, but is rare to see a community come together — black and white — for their kids,” Tom Calvert said …
State Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion, is also helping with the project. Friends of John Bradley donated the cost of fencing to surround the park.
“We’re committed to the communities of Southern Illinois,” Bradley said.
These wonderful folks are making a real difference in our area. Hunger is a largely unseen epidemic in our region. I’m honored and humbled to be able to play a small part in the big work these local churches and organizations are doing. Sometimes the only time a child is able to eat is at school. During the summer these eight programs help to supplement that need by offering free lunches and meals throughout the district.
Hoping everyone is having a fun and safe Independence Day!
Had a great time walking and seeing lots of friends at the Sesser Homecoming festival last night!
It was a hot day to get out and walk in the 117th district! But I’m happy I have the opportunity to meet so many different people and hear their stories. Great day!
Today commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14th in 1777. Are you flying a flag today? I’d love to see a photo of your flag in the comments below.
Each year on Memorial Day the nation remembers those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. While many have the day off to spend with family and friends, remember to take a moment to reflect on the true reason for the day and all those who have served. All gave some, some gave all.
Enjoyed connecting with friends at the HerrinFesta Italiana Parade Saturday.
Great day in Springfield! Welcomed John and Audrey Gulley today. Audrey was a fantastic page!
Great to welcome Kitty Laing and her grandson, Tyler Carroll, to the House floor this week! Tyler served as my page for the day at the Capitol and just graduated from Akin Grade School.

Proud to say that I was able to stand up with my fellow southern Illinois Legislators from both sides of the aisle in support of Illinois coal.

It’s been a busy week up in Springfield, but I wanted to make sure I shared these pictures.
I presented a new Illinois State Flag to the kids at Jefferson Elementary School earlier this week to be flown outside the school. As part of their school’s safety patrol, they care for the flags each day.
A good part of my family attended Jefferson Elementary, including my youngest who is a student there now, so it was a special opportunity for me to visit the school. Thanks for having me!
Glad I had the opportunity to speak with the SIU Carbondale chapter of the Annuitants Association. They held their spring meeting Friday morning. We were able to discuss together legislation impacting university retirees and their pensions.
Here’s an update on higher education funding.
I had the opportunity to talk about the state budget with students and faculty at John A. Logan yesterday.
Representative Phelps, Senator Forby and myself joined together with local school leaders in Springfield today. We’re calling on the General Assembly and Governor Rauner for a greater investment in southern Illinois schools.
I said it today and I’ll continue to say it, you’ll never get me to accept that kids in southern Illinois aren’t worth as much as kids in other parts of the state!
Students from John A. Logan College came to Springfield today for their Lobby Day. It was a pleasure to welcome this great group and talk about the need for a state budget and funding for higher education.
I am so proud to have such a great partnership with the Illinois State Rifle Association.
